Perpetually Lost

A personal art series inspired by the human condition of

self-estrangement

Perpetually Lost is a personal art series inspired by the human condition of self-estrangement – the state or feeling of being alienated from society as a whole. As Karl Marx defines it, "the alienation of man's essence, man's loss of objectivity and his loss of realness as self-discovery, manifestation of his nature, objectification and realization."

I manifest this sensation in cartoon-like ghosts (“Ghosties”), a reference to the idea that apparitions exist in a dimension between the living and dead wandering aimlessly and alone.

The series helps me explore the ego in my distancing and self isolation; maybe an allusion to a fear of commitment. I draw these ghosts and write these phrases to translate abstract feelings into something tangible.
